company profile
Microchem was established in 2007 when Woolworths sold its in-house food laboratory to Raymond Hartley,
who was the lab manager for many years, and a BEE partner. In 2009,Microchem purchased the Microchem
Gauteng Branch (formally known as Consulting Microbiological Laboratory (Pty) Ltd, (CML), situated in
Benoni, and changed the name to Microchem, Gauteng Branch. This acquisition enabled Microchem to provide
a better microbiological service to its Gauteng clients.
Initially Microchem focused on routine microbiological and nutritional analyses. However, clients
increasingly looked to Microchem to enhance the offering in terms of range and sophistication of tests.
Microchem responded by continuously investing in the latest technology and recruiting highly competent
chemists and microbiologists. A research and development capability has been established for the
introduction of new test methodologies. Our state of the art technology includes GC, GC-MS, HPLC, LC-MS-MS,
ICP and real time PCR. These instruments have greatly extended the variety of analyses, Microchem can offer
substantially lower levels of detection and the analysis of a greater range of compounds. Today Microchem
is one of the most advanced chemical and microbiological laboratories in Africa.
Microchem enjoys close relationships with research laboratories and Universities in Europe. Collaboration
with these partners provides a global view of food industry related issues and challenges.
Microchem is committed to maintaining our leadership position as the market evolves
and new client needs are identified.
